Duttenhaver Scholarships Awarded for Year-long Study Abroad Programs
DATE: 12/18/2012
$5,000 Awards Highlight Year-Length Study Abroad Programs Beginning in January and February
Santa Barbara, CA (December 2012)—The University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) has announced the recipients of its Duttenhaver Scholarships for year-long study abroad programs departing in January–February 2013 (Southern Hemisphere).
These $5,000 awards are made available through the generosity of philanthropist and UCEAP alumna Linda Duttenhaver. Year programs maximize the benefits of immersion in another culture, and the Duttenhaver Scholarships help provide these benefits to students who might not otherwise be able to spend a full academic year abroad. While year programs are traditionally thought of as beginning in the fall, the Southern Hemisphere Duttenhaver awards highlight a group of exciting programs where year-long study abroad begins in the middle of UC’s academic year.
UCEAP would like to congratulate the highly accomplished students receiving Southern Hemisphere Duttenhaver Scholarships and also again express our thanks to Linda Duttenhaver for the continued support that makes these significant awards possible.
Duttenhaver Scholarship Recipients for Southern Hemisphere Programs:
Lindsay Bern, UC Irvine (Australia)

Alyssa Celones, UC Santa Barbara (Chile)

Kathleen Martinez, UC Davis (New Zealand)

Katherine Wentz, UC Santa Barbara (New Zealand)
More than 30 awards of $5,000 are disbursed annually to applicants based on academic performance and financial need. Award recipients note a passion for studying abroad and a willingness to embrace and learn from the host country's customs, language, and culture. To learn about upcoming deadlines for Northern Hemisphere Scholarship awards see the UCEAP website.
