On-site Support

UCEAP students are supported by UC's network of study abroad offices at every UC campus and partnerships with UCEAP host universities throughout the world. Once abroad, a host university faculty or staff member representing UCEAP will be your first point of contact for all matters. Among other things, the designated person provides support with academic matters, program logistics, and personal issues. At HKUST, designated EAP Liaison Officers and program administrators oversee UCEAP students and will assist you with various needs, including academic advising.
See the UCEAP Program Guide for program-specific details about host institutions, program structure, and courses; academic culture and conduct; internships, research, & independent study; units, exams, and grades; orientation; and housing.

Course Opportunities

Academic life at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is largely based within its academic schools and program offices.
UCEAP students take the majority of their courses in the HKUST school or program into which they are admitted based on their UC major: Business and Management, Engineering, Science, or Humanities and Social Science. Other, elective courses may then be taken from different HKUST schools or programs.
Interdisciplinary Programs offer coursework across disciplines and departments. Current programs include technology and management, risk management and business intelligence, and environmental management and technology.
Business, economics, science, and engineering courses are all taught in English. Some social science and humanities courses are taught in English, while some are taught in Chinese.

The mission of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is to advance knowledge in science, technology, engineering, business, and management, and to assist the economic and social development of Hong Kong. Its ultramodern, futuristic-looking campus is located on 150 acres terraced hillsides overlooking Clear Water Bay.
Participation in UCEAP is a great value! The cost of studying abroad on UCEAP programs is typically less than that of non-UC study abroad programs. The dollar figures listed in the chart below represent an estimate of: 1) the UCEAP fees for the current year, and 2) the additional amount needed to cover your living expenses in this location. Estimates for personal travel, entertainment and Non-Resident (out of state) Fees are not included.
Keep in mind that on UCEAP you take your financial aid with you. The amount of your financial aid package will take into account the total estimated costs of this experience. One advantage of selecting UCEAP for study abroad is that we facilitate the process by working with your UC Financial Aid Office (FAO), informing them of your UCEAP participation and providing them with your UCEAP budget. Just like your UC Campus billing office, we receive your financial aid and scholarships from your FAO, apply it to cover the UCEAP program fees, and disburse any remaining aid on a set schedule.
