Host Institutions

Lund University

Lund University
Lund University is the largest institution of higher education in Sweden as well as being a highly regarded international center for research. Established 350 years ago by the Swedish government, the university was originally created to promote Swedish language and culture in what was formally Danish territory. Nowadays, over 40,000 undergraduate students engage in a wide range of academic subjects, with Lund specializing in three distinct areas: medicine and pharmaceuticals, globally sustainable societal development, and the life sciences.

With 281 academic programs (majors) and 2,254 courses offered—as well as connections with Ideon Research Park and the Holger Crafoord Centre—Lund is considered the most prestigious university in Sweden. Lund University is organized into eight Schools (Faculties), Institutes, and Research Centers, which offer the enterprising student impressive opportunities for intellectual growth. In addition to Social Science, School of Economics and Management, Humanities-Theology, Science, Medicine, and Law, Lund boasts a world-renowned Faculty of Engineering.

Lund University also boasts a fun and involved student life with many course-specific unions, academic societies, and student events hosted year round. Two exciting student events include the student carnival Lundakarnevalen (held every four years) and Valborg/Sista April, a spring festival held on the last day of April with breakfast, barbeques, and bonfires. Lund is also the city with the healthiest and youngest population in Sweden, and much of the city life centers around the university.
