UCEAP Values Your Voice

We want to know about your UCEAP experience and what you’re doing today. Share your story with future UCEAP participants and make an impact that will last a lifetime.

Since the program began in 1962, 60,000+ alumni have participated in UCEAP and come away with diverse and colorful experiences. In addition, many UCEAP alumni are making significant contributions in the international arena. Some of our famous alumni include:

  • Ambassador Barbara Bodine: U.S. Ambassador to The Republic of Yemen (1997–2001); Dean of Professional Studies at the Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute; recipient of UC Santa Barbara’s Distinguished Alumni award (1991)

  • David Bustamante: Public Affairs Officer, Department of Foreign Service

  • Marco Antonio Firebaugh: California State Assembly (deceased March 21, 2006)

  • Governor Jennifer Granholm (2003-present): Significant participant in the Obama Administration transition team, Michigan’s Attorney General (1999-2002)

  • Ambassador Marc Grossman: Vice Chairman of The Cohen Group (2005-present); Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs (2001-2005); Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs (1997-2000); U.S. Ambassador to Turkey (1994-1997)

  • Dr. Kathryn D. Sullivan: NASA Astronaut; Aviation Week & Space Technology Aerospace Legend Award (2005); Astronaut Hall of Fame (2004); Public Service Award, National Science Board (2003); four Presidential nominations under different administrations (1985, 1992, 2000, 2004)

"My experience in France has changed the way I view societies, politics, education, and cultures. I could write a novel about my experiences, but I have to end this report emphasizing the importance of the Education Abroad Program for all the students. The Education Abroad Program in Lyon was a true challenge and an eye opener experience for me.
