Housing is not guaranteed. Be aware that the standard rental contract for housing accommodations is nine months (or until the end of the academic year for students arriving in January). Students leaving their housing before the end of the agreement may be subject to a cancellation fee.

University Housing (UC Housing)

You must have a UCR Student Identification Number (SID), NetID, and PermPin/Password to apply for housing. Once you are admitted, an SID number will be sent to you by UCEAP. Based on this information, you will access your Net I.D. and Perm PIN.

Apply as soon as you obtain your Net I.D. and Perm PIN.
Application Fee Required: None
Deposit Required:
$200 security deposit with submission of the contract.
Residence Halls None, however a First Payment of $250 is required with submission of the contract.
Method of Payment Options: MasterCard, American Express, Discover Card or E-Check are accepted online.
Notification of Housing Assignments: Students who receive a UCR Campus Housing assignment receive a contact by e-mail that will require prompt response. The housing assignment noted in the contract is secure if the contract and security deposit are submitted by the listed deadline. Contact the Housing Administration office by phone at (951) 827-6350 or by email at to check your status.

Application Deadline: Apply as soon as you obtain your Net I.D. and Perm PIN.
Application Fee Required: $150 ($200 beginning July 1, 2013)
Deposit Required: $200 security deposit and advanced payment of first month's rent is required by the contract packet due date.
Method of Payment Options: International money order, Check (Personal/Corporate/Cashiers), Visa or MasterCard. Note: Credit card payments pay a 3% convenience fee for rental fees.
Notification of Housing Assignments: Placed students receive a contact packet by e-mail. Contact the Housing office by phone or e-mail to check your status.

Community Housing (Non-UC Housing)

Students should be aware that this housing is not UC-sponsored or endorsed and that it is not advisable to rent prior to arrival when you can visit the rental in person.
Housing Services Office (Community Living Listings Services)
This office offers a housing service for UC students. Students can access room/apartment listings via the Internet free of charge. UCR ID and PIN are required to access the listings.

When should I arrive?: No later than September 11, 2013

You may arrive no more than 30 days prior to the date printed on your visa certificate of eligibility (DS-2019). Students who do not have pre-arranged housing are advised to arrive as early as possible.

About UCR ID numbers
Business Administration Advising:  Students must meet with Asst. Dean Kazi Mamun prior to registration for classes.  Business courses are open to business majors only.

College of Engineering Advising: Advisor is Nikki Measor
The registration system might require proof of completion of a prerequisite for registration in certain courses. Students who have completed coursework at their home university equivalent to the prerequisite course(s) required should contact their major advisor by e-mail for authorization to enroll in the course.
Graduate students: Graduate students usually register after consultation with the departmental graduate advisor. Check with your host department for registration advising.
Financial Information

GROWL: View your student account. Financial information is available online. You are responsible for checking your student account regularly and paying any fees that apply.

Paying Fees 

Student Technology Course Materials fee (CMF): $4 per unit for undergraduates and $2 per unit for graduates will be billed to your student account. The fee is non-refundable after the third week of instruction.  

International Student ​Orientation fee: $40 will be billed to your student account; Orientation includes refreshments. 

Health Insurance Fees: Fees will be billed to your account each quarter. See Health Insurance & Services information below.

Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE)
If you plan to take writing coursework while at UCR, you may be required to take the AWPE for course enrollment.

Health Insurance & Services

​2013-14 costs and information are listed below.

Requirement: Students are automatically enrolled in the University’s Student Health Insurance Plan, unless they complete a waiver form that provides proof of equivalent coverage, and it is approved.

Cost: $348 per quarter (undergraduates); $869 per quarter (graduates)
Billing: Each quarter

Payment Deadline: Reciprocity students may pay as soon as they arrive on campus.
Effective Dates:
Fall: September 23, 2013 - January 1, 2014
(Special early effective date for international students arriving in the fall is September 9, 2013)
Winter: January 2, 2014 - March 25, 2014
Spring/Summer*: March 26, 2014 - September 23, 2014
*Insurance under USHIP for eligible students enrolled for the Spring quarter will extend through the end of Summer.
Form Deadlines: A hold will be placed on your course enrollment if forms are not received by the required date.

Health Screening Form:
Only students 18 years or younger need  to complete the Health Screening form.
