Housing is not guaranteed. Be aware that the standard rental agreement for some housing options is nine months (or until the end of the academic year for students arriving in spring). Students leaving their housing before the end of the agreement may be subject to a cancellation fee.

Application Deadline: Apply as soon as you receive your UCMNetID

Even if the deadline has passed, there still may be places available in campus housing. E-mail the assignments office if you are interested in applying for housing after the announced deadline. For the best chance of placement, include "any room type, any location" in your list of housing preferences.

When should I arrive?: No later than January 17, 2019; No earlier than December 23, 2018.
You may arrive no more than 30 days prior to the start date printed on your visa certificate of eligibility (DS-2019). Students who do not have pre-arranged housing should arrive as early as possible.

Take the following to the check-in and orientation meeting: your visa, passport, DS-2019 form, and your I-94 form (a document you download from the Customs and Border Protection website after your arrival in the U.S.)

About ID Numbers at UC Merced

Students must claim their UCMNetID and access their online student account in the MyUCMerced portal to enroll. Your Student ID (SID) number will be sent to you as soon as it becomes available. You will use the SID to claim your UCMNetID and create your password.

SID (Student Identification) is a 9-digit number assigned by UCM to every new student. This SID is used by UCM as your unique identifying number.

UCMNetID is an ID that you claim using your SID number and other required personal information to confirm your identity. Your UCMNetID does not have to be a number. is where you use your UCMNetID and password to access your online student account and enroll in courses.

Once you received your SID, click the "First Time Users, claim your UCMNetID" link.
Graduate Students
Graduate students usually register after consultation with the department’s graduate advisor. Check with your host department for registration advising.
Financial Information

UCM Portal: View your student account. Financial information is available online. You are responsible for checking your student account regularly and paying any fees that apply.

Requirement: Students are automatically enrolled in the University’s Student Health Insurance Plan, unless they complete a waiver form that provides proof of equivalent coverage, and it is approved.
Cost: Fall Semester: $936.72 (undergraduates); $1,148.64 (graduates)
Spring Semester/Summer*: $1,311.40 (undergraduates); $1,608.10 (graduates)
