Housing is not guaranteed. Be aware that the standard rental agreement for some housing accommodations is nine months (or until the end of the academic year for students arriving in January). Students leaving their housing before the end of the agreement may be subject to a cancellation fee. 

Do not sign a contract with more than one housing provider.

International House (UC Housing)

Application Period: November 1 - November 13 at 11:59 p.m. (California time)

The International House is the primary on-campus accommodation for Reciprocity students. Admission to I-House is extremely competitive and primarily based on the willingness of the applicant to be an active member of the I-House community.

Give yourself adequate time to fill out the application completely. It will be read and is an important part of the I-House selection process. Unfortunately, some qualified applicants may not be admitted due to limited space.

Selection results will be sent to your UCSD email by early December. If you do not receive a notification, email the ERC Residence Life Office.

When should I arrive?: No later than January 6, 2019 and no earlier than December 3, 2018.

You may arrive no more than 30 days prior to the start date printed on your visa certificate of eligibility (DS-2019). Students who do not have pre-arranged housing are advised to arrive as early as possible.

Preauthorization System for access to courses with prerequisites

  • If the class in which you wish to enroll has prerequisites or restrictions, submit your preauthorization request via the EASy (Enrollment Authorization System).
  • In your request, include a description of the courses you have completed that you believe are equivalent to the listed course prerequisites. 
  • Upload a PDF file with additional details supporting your justification for enrolling in the selected course. Ex: unofficial or official transcript or official AP scores. The document must include both your printed name and the printed name of the institution. UC San Diego will not accept documentation that has been altered in any way.
  • Submit the request.
  • You will receive an email notification once the department has made a decision on your request. In some cases, you may be required to supply additional supporting documents such as course syllabi or transcripts.
  • If your request is approved, visit WebReg to enroll.

Graduate students usually register after consultation with the department’s graduate advisor. Check with your host department for registration advising.
Financial Information

Your E-Bill: UCSD sends an E-Bill notice to your UCSD-issued e-mail address when your bill is ready to be viewed and paid. You are responsible for checking your student account regularly and paying any fees that apply.

2018-19 costs and information are listed below.

Requirement: Students are automatically enrolled in the University’s Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), unless they complete a waiver form that provides proof of equivalent coverage and are approved for waiver.

Cost: $657 per quarter (undergraduates); $1,203 per quarter (graduates)
