About ID Numbers at Cal

Students must have a CalNet ID and PassPhrase to enroll. Your Student ID (SID) number and PIN will be sent to you as soon as they become available. You will use the SID and PIN to create your CalNet ID and passphrase.

SID (Student Identification) = 8-digit number that is assigned by UCB to every new student.  This SID is used by UC as your unique identifying number.

PIN (Personal Identification Number) = 4-digit number that must be used together with the SID to create a CalNet ID and passphrase.

CalNet ID = an ID that you create using your SID and PIN.  It does not have to be a number.

PassPhrase = a secret phrase that you create that must be used together with your CalNet ID in order to access secure campus websites. You create your passphrase at the same time that you create your CalNet ID.

Create your CalNet ID!
On the list of links on the left under "Manage Your Identity", select "Create CalNet ID."
