Academic Integrity: The Key to Success

UC faculty and students are essential elements that ensure the academic standards of EAP study abroad programs. UC faculty members are key in the development, assessment, and oversight of EAP academic programs. UC students successfully earn UC academic credit and grades; in many cases, they fulfill UC degree and graduation requirements while attending top universities around the world.

Program Development

The participation of UC faculty in EAP program development and approval ensures the academic rigor of opportunities offered. The UC Senate Committee on International Education (UCIE) reviews and oversees all academic aspects of EAP, including the approval of new programs and institutional partners. UCIE also represents the Academic Senate in the selection of UC faculty Study Center Directors. Faculty members conduct formal academic reviews of all programs. It does this by means of formal review committees composed of UC faculty members who have knowledge of the country, the partner institutions, and the primary areas of study under review. The reviews provide UCIE and EAP with a periodic mechanism for in-depth evaluations of its academic programs, goals, and relationships with partner institutions.

Faculty Roles

EAP Study Center Directors are tenured UC faculty members who provide on-site academic and administrative oversight of some EAP programs. They advise students on UC policies, academic programs and course selection, assist in the translation of EAP courses to UC credit, and report grades. They also advise EAP about the quality of particular academic fields and departments at EAP partner institutions and their comparability to UC.

Campus Faculty

Campus Faculty Directors supervise the Campus EAP Offices on each UC campus and report directly to appropriate campus administrators. On some campuses, they work with departmental faculty liaisons to coordinate outreach and Academic Integration efforts.
Each campus has an Academic Senate committee that addresses international education and advises on EAP policies and procedures. Usually, the chair of this committee is the campus representative to UCIE. Many UC faculty voluntarily assist with EAP student outreach, advising, selection, and orientation.

UOEAP Faculty

At the Universitywide Office of EAP (UOEAP), the EAP Director and Academic Dean are UC faculty members.

The EAP Director serves as the UOEAP liaison to the UC Office of the President and to the UC Academic Senate. The EAP Director also facilitates negotiations and examines issues at EAP locations abroad, and provides general oversight for EAP operations.

The EAP Academic Dean provides academic oversight. The Academic Dean focuses on planning, program development, troubleshooting, and the integration of EAP into the curriculum of the UC campuses. The position also focuses on the academic administration of the program (review and approval of EAP courses, petitions, and grades), and the recruitment and selection of Study Center Directors. The Academic Dean works on assessments and oversight for formal academic reviews of EAP programs.
