Flash Presentations
Flash Presentations are short animated pieces promoting EAP which
are delivered to students by email. Topics include specific academic
disciplines, countries or regions, new programs, and particular
student cohorts (e.g., transfer students).
Production
- The Universitywide Office of EAP (UOEAP) creates the animation
using Macromedia Flash and develops the web page template.
- Campus EAP Offices work with UOEAP to customize the web page
(e.g., add information about upcoming informational sessions or
workshops relevant to the targeted group of students).
Distribution
- Campus EAP Offices email the appropriate academic advisors,
asking them to send the Flash page URL to their students through
their major listservs.
- Campus EAP Offices may also send the email to department chairs
and sympathetic faculty, as well as teaching assistants, for their
information.
Note: Although permission is occasionally given for EAP to access
listservs directly, endorsements from students’ advisors or instructors
carry greater weight and are less likely to be seen as SPAM.
Tracking and Assessment
- Campus EAP Offices ask these advisors and faculty when and
to how many students they sent the Flash email, and forward their
responses to UOEAP.
- Campus EAP Offices inform UOEAP of when, how many, and in what
ways students responded (e.g., participation at informational
sessions).
- UOEAP analyzes the information above, alongside data on how
students explored the Flash page, to assess the impact and effectiveness
of the campaign from a systemwide perspective.
