Description
|
This introductory course in political science surveys the major areas of the subject. It studies the evolution of political systems, patterns of interaction between groups, the relationship between the people and state, the links between political obligation and individual rights, and the functions of political institutions. Topics include basic political concepts (e.g., state, power, legitimacy, authority, etc.), power and its pursuit; the state, nation, and national identity; the international political system; organization and types of government; bureaucracy and public administration; ideologies; and political culture and socialization. Assessment: class participation and quiz, midterm exam, final exam.
