Course
Description
|
This course is required for EAP students participating in all immersion programs in Italy who have not completed two years of university level Italian prior to departure. The course provides intensive full-immersion instruction in Italian language and culture. The course emphasizes comprehension and communication skills (written and oral) and acquisition of specific lexicons. The course begins with a grammar review of first year Italian, and then builds into more complex morphological syntactical structures, completing the grammar curriculum of second year university-level Italian. Students review all major time frames (present, future, past) in both the explicit verb modes (indicative, conditional, subjunctive, and imperative) and the implicit (infinitive, gerund, and past participle). The course emphasizes verb tense agreement, the use of verbs with prepositions, and conjunctives. Educational experiences include field trips, guided city walks, site visits, and a night at the opera. The course also includes on-site lectures and hands-on experiences led by an Italian archaeologist at the excavations at Ostia Antica. Attendance is required at all lectures and course activities.
