Description

This course introduces Italian composition and conversation to students with no prior knowledge of Italian. Basic grammar is applied through exercises, games, songs, role-plays and the production of short written papers and oral presentations. Students learn to express basic needs, enabling them to communicate in familiar situations and arguments. Students read brief and simple texts and write brief descriptive and narrative texts. Topics covered include: regular and irregular verbs, regular and irregular participles, reflexive forms, auxiliary and modal verbs, and use of the verb 'piacere.' The verb tenses include the indicative tense (present, past tense, imperfect, future simple); and the conditional present. Other grammatical elements include forms and uses of all the simple and articulated prepositions; adverbs; connectives; determinate and indeterminate articles; gender and number of adjectives; common regular and irregular nouns; demonstrative adjectives and pronouns; subject pronouns, direct and indirect pronouns; reflexive pronouns; and possessives.
