Study in China

Captivated by the geographic panorama and historical landmarks of China, from its teeming cities to expansive deserts and lush grasslands, students witness how a rapidly developing economy impacts the diverse communities, traditional values, and physical environment of this vast nation. Students have many program options. Summer, semester, and year-long programs provide intensive language instruction for students who have varying levels of Chinese language proficiency. A new summer program for students with no prior background in Chinese is under development. Special focus spring and fall semester programs in Shanghai, taught in English, concentrate on Chinese economics and business or international studies and globalization within a Chinese context. Students with more advanced Chinese language skills take course work in a number of fields. All students (except those in the summer programs) may be able to arrange independent study or internships with high-profile international, Chinese, or US agencies.

Programs are available at Peking University and Beijing Normal University, two leading universities in Beijing, and in Shanghai at Fudan University, internationally recognized for its academic excellence, and at East China Normal University, one of the top-rated centers for teaching Chinese language. Beijing is the nation’s political and historic center of learning and culture. Shanghai, China’s largest city and its commercial center, is thoroughly international and the hub for dramatic entrepreneurial economic development.
