Barbados: Fall and Academic Year Programs - University of the West Indies, Cave HillHost institutionUniversity of the West Indies, Cave HillHighlightsThe University of the West Indies (UWI) is comprised of three campuses, with locations in Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. EAP students attend the Barbados campus at Cave Hill where many of the 6,000 students are locals and from nearby islands. Because of the complex colonial history of the island, UC students can gain a unique perspective while pursuing Caribbean and African studies. In addition to Caribbean-based studies, students can choose from a wide array of courses offered in the faculties of Clinical and Medical Research, Humanities and Education, Law, Pure and Applied Sciences, and Social Sciences. Academic FocusRegular university courses in a wide range of disciplines, including African diaspora studies, biology, Caribbean studies, environmental law, international economics, and sociology. Language of InstructionEnglish UnitsStudents are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad. Students enroll in four courses for a total of 24 UC quarter units per semester. HousingA limited amount of on-campus housing is available in UWI’s residence halls. EAP participants who desire on-campus housing may reserve space in a residence hall by applying directly through UWI administration and dorm management. Students may also seek accommodation off campus in private apartments or shared rental houses. Students live with other UC students, international students, or host country students.
