The attractive PUC-Rio campus is in a secure location and near the city’s southern beaches. For students wishing to further immerse themselves in the life of this tropical capital, PUC-Rio organizes opportunities to volunteer in community service projects in other parts of the city. Duration (calendar)

Spring semester: early January to mid-July
Fall semester: late June to mid-December
Year: early January to mid-December

Students attending the spring semester program may extend their EAP participation to the full year option.

Academic Focus

Regular university courses. The PUC-Rio website offers short course descriptions.

For course descriptions and additional information, see the EAP Course Information page. The EAP Study Center arranges independent studies for qualified students.

Students attend classes with international students and host country students.

Language of Instruction

Portuguese

Language Study

Program begins with a four-week Portuguese intensive language program (ILP). Portuguese language study is required during the semester and year.

Units

EAP students are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad.

ILP: 3 to 6 UC quarter units

Term: Students generally enroll in three or four courses per semester in order to meet the required minimum of 18 UC quarter units per semester.

Housing

For the first month of the program, students live in pre-arranged housing (usually rented rooms in Brazilian households). After the ILP, students may find their own housing or choose to remain in their ILP housing.
Students live with other UC students and international students.
