Highlights

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is the second largest university in Canada with an enrollment of approximately 44,000 students. Of these, 5,400 are international students from over 138 countries. The attractive campus is located about 30 minutes from the heart of downtown Vancouver on a peninsula bordered by ocean, islands, and forested mountains. Students enjoy the Museum of Anthropology, the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, and the UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research, and can explore the nearby 763-hectare Pacific Spirit Regional Park. As a leading research university, with 11 faculties and 100 academic departments, UBC offers challenging courses in a wide range of subject areas.

Marine and Coastal Sciences: Seniors and graduate students in marine and coastal sciences may take courses at the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre, a unique research and teaching facility on the west coast of Vancouver Island. This opportunity is available during the fall.

Fall students may extend their EAP participation to the year. Bamfield Marine Sciences students can extend to the spring semester at UBC.

Academic Focus

Students attend classes with international students and host country students.

Units

Students are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad. Students enroll in four courses for a total of 24 UC quarter units per semester.

Housing

Students live with other UC students, international students, or host country students in residence halls on campus, or in apartments or private homes that are located within a reasonable distance from the campus. Students enrolled in the fall Bamfield Marine Sciences semester are housed in cabins at the Bamfield field station. (details)
