Canada: Student Comments

“I never thought I would consider Canada for an amazing abroad experience, but I could not have been more wrong. The beauty of the country and its people left me longing to return. The diversity gave me the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, something that I had never experienced on other abroad programs. Because all of my classes focused extensively on group work, I was challenged to interact closely with the student body as well as the local community. I found the students at UBC to be the most hard-working and encouraging of any school that I have attended. I'll always think fondly of Canada. I hope that its charm will convince more students to study at such an uncommon destination. I consider myself lucky for having made such a rare choice.”

“EAP has impacted my life in many ways. I chose Canada because I had not taken a language at the university level, because I was able to sign up for a semester with the option to extend, because UBC had a lot of classes in my major, and mostly because of the beauty of British Columbia and the strong reputation of UBC. I ended up having one of the most exciting and academically stimulating periods in my life. While it was probably the most challenging term for me academically it was also the most rewarding and I am very proud of the work I did. It made me more dedicated to my major and more focused. Study abroad also gave me the confidence that I needed to be able to go to places where I didn't know a soul without the fear of being lonely and isolated. In retrospect, the time I spent abroad through EAP was the most valuable part of my UC experience. My desire to travel and learn that grew from this experience continues to guide my life choices and goals.”
