Highlights

The Shanghai summer Intensive Language Program is held at East China Normal University (ECNU). Situated on the east coast of China, Shanghai fuses the charm of its older European neighborhoods with the bold, gleaming features of a futuristic metropolis. ECNU, one of China’s oldest and most reputable universities, is located in the southwest area of the city on an expansive green campus divided by a quiet, tree-lined canal. The university has a modern infrastructure with excellent sports facilities, a wide variety of clubs and activities, and comfortable residence halls on campus. (details)

Duration

Summer: early July to mid-August (calendar)

Space permitting, students may apply to extend their EAP participation. Extension to the fall program at Beijing Normal University is encouraged. Extension to a fall program at ECNU for continued language instruction is also possible. Extension to the fall UC-Fudan University Joint Program in International Studies (JPIS) or to the year programs at Peking University or Beijing Normal University is not permitted.

Chinese language; intensive written and conversational courses at several levels of elementary and intermediate Chinese. See the Course Finder for courses previously taken by EAP students. (details)

Students attend classes with UC students and other international students.

Language Study

Students take only language classes during the summer.

Units

Students are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad. 12 UC quarter units are required.

Housing

Students live off campus or on campus in foreign student dormitories in single or double rooms shared with other UC students. Students may choose to share a room with a local Chinese student (cost of room is paid by the UC student). (details)
