Egypt: Academic Year Program - The American University in Cairo

Highlights

The American University in Cairo (AUC) is located in Tahrir Square in downtown Cairo near government ministry buildings, the National Cultural Center, and the Egyptian Museum. Courses are taught in English through AUC’s three main schools: Humanities and Social Sciences; Sciences and Engineering; and Business, Economics, and Communication. Each term UC students take an Arabic language course and also select from the wide variety of courses.

EAP students attend classes with international and host country students.

Language of Instruction

English

Language Study

The study of modern standard Arabic or Egyptian colloquial Arabic is required each term. Students enroll in one language course during the semester. An optional five-day survival Arabic language course is offered during the orientation period.

Units

Students are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad. Students enroll in five courses to meet the unit requirement for the term of 22.5 UC quarter units per semester.

Housing

It is recommended that students live in AUC’s residence halls, though they have the option to seek accommodation in off-campus apartments. Students live with other UC students, international students, or host country students. (details)
