France: Introductory Studies in Western Civilization Programs, American University of Paris
Host InstitutionAmerican University of Paris (AUP) HighlightsAUP, founded in 1962, is centrally located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, on the Left Bank near the Eiffel Tower and the Seine River. It enrolls over 800 students from 85 nations. While AUP’s culture, structure, and policies are similar to those of liberal arts universities in the United States, an international dimension in all fields enriches its interdisciplinary curriculum. AUP offers a wide range of activities and cultural programs, including course-related study trips, cultural excursions throughout France and Europe, and a wealth of cultural events in Paris. (details) Duration Fall semester: late August to mid-December (calendar) Academic FocusEAP students take four courses, including a required French language course and three content courses. Students select from a list of approximately 30 courses that focus on Western European studies with a special emphasis on Paris, France, and European culture. Courses may fulfill general education and/or breadth requirements and major requirements in fields of art history, literature, history, communications, urban culture, political science, and psychology.
