Germany: Full Immersion Programs, Berlin UniversitiesHost Institutions
HighlightsAdvanced undergraduates with strong academic plans and UC graduate students may apply to spend the fall semester or full academic year at any of the EAP host universities in Berlin. (The fall semester extends through March.) Undergraduates must be able to demonstrate maturity, the ability to work independently, and have the strong backing of their UC departmental advisor. Students requesting this option will present a well-focused program of study that centers around course work clearly identified in advance. They should have taken at least one upper-division course (taught in German) in the field they wish to study in Berlin. (details) Duration Fall semester: early September to late February/March Fall students may extend their EAP participation in Germany to the year. Quarter campus students attending the fall program will miss the UC winter quarter due to the German academic calendar; Berkeley students will miss the UC spring semester. Academic FocusFree University: Comparative literature, political science, political economy, history, and international relations Humboldt University: German and comparative literature, history, media studies, cultural studies, women’s and gender studies, and the humanities Technical University: Sciences, math, engineering, environmental studies, and architecture For course descriptions and additional information, see the Course Information page. Students attend classes with host country students, international students, and UC students. Language of InstructionGerman Language StudyPrograms begin with a six-week summer intensive language program, taught at the university students will be attending (optional for graduate students with German language proficiency). Language study is not required during the year. UnitsStudents are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad.
