Germany: Spring Semester at Berlin-Potsdam with Fall Internship

Highlights

Students who have one year of university-level German may use the Potsdam program to gain sufficient language ability to participate in EAP’s three-month fall internship program. Students attend Potsdam in the spring, and then participate in the six-week summer intensive language program (ILP) in Göttingen, followed by a three-month internship at one of many locations throughout Germany. Upon completion of the fall internship, qualified students may extend their EAP participation to the advanced spring option in Göttingen.

Academic Focus

German language study and an internship. The program provides the equivalent of the second year of university-level German. Following the spring semester in Potsdam and the summer intensive language program in Göttingen, students participate in a special fall internship arranged to correspond with their major field of study.

Language Study

The spring curriculum focuses on language study. Students take a six-week summer intensive language program following the Potsdam spring semester and prior to the internship. Language study is not required during the internship.

Units

Students are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad.

Spring: approximately 21 UC quarter units (about five courses)

ILP: 8 UC quarter units

Internship: A maximum of 12 UC quarter units, may vary by campus regulation

Housing

During the spring, students live in dormitories. Students may also make their own private housing arrangements. During the ILP in Göttingen, students live in dorms. During the internship students live in apartments near their internship location. Students live with international students, UC students, or host country students. (details)
