Highlights

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is pleasantly situated on gentle knolls at the edge of Kumasi, located about half a day by road from Accra. Studies in African art and environmental and development studies are complemented by living in a cultural and commercial center surrounded by villages that practice numerous ancient crafts. Kumasi is the traditional capital of the culturally rich Ashanti nation and the locale of one of the liveliest markets in West Africa. (details)

Extension is possible from the fall to the year.

Academic Focus

Regular university courses in African art history, studio art, agriculture (including rural sociology and agricultural economics), agro- and wildlife ecology, environmental and development studies, natural resources management, and other social sciences. All students undertake an independent study or research project, which is equivalent to one course. For course descriptions and additional information, see the EAP Course Information page.

Students attend classes with international students and host country students.

Units

Students are required to take a full-time course of study on EAP; 24 UC quarter units per semester are required, which is approximately six courses (the number of units per course varies widely).

Housing

Students live in university residence halls on campus with EAP students, international students, and host country students. Off-campus housing is not permitted. (details)
