Study in Ghana

Studying in Ghana opens the door for the exploration of the nation’s diverse cultures, its magnetic musical and artistic creativity, its political development, and its social challenges, both historical and contemporary. Ghanaian society is made up of more than 40 distinct ethnic groups, each with its own language and allied dialects, history, customs, and traditions. Ghanaians are noted for their warmth and friendly manner of welcoming visitors. Ghana today is a peaceful country under a liberal civilian government with one of the best-developed educational systems in tropical Africa; yet the country each day must address concerns and choices in moving forward on national development. As students adapt to the sometimes-challenging environment of daily life in this emergent country, they gain valuable experience that far outweighs the temporary sacrifice of many comforts of California. EAP in Ghana offers a rewarding combination of regular university course work from a unique perspective; the opportunity to conduct independent research, field study, or internships in a dramatically different setting; and immersion in a vibrant and inviting culture that looks toward the future while retaining the values of the past.

EAP offers fall, spring, and academic year programs at two universities in Ghana: the University of Ghana in Legon (a suburb of Accra) and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi to the north. Programs at both universities are taught in English and offer a range of courses in the social sciences, arts and humanities, and selected sciences, especially as they are related to West Africa.
