Israel: Fall Semester, Spring Semester, Academic year(Below is the 2002-2003 program summary. Programs in Israel have been on hold since 2002.) Host Institution: The Hebrew University of Jerusalem Highlights: The Hebrew University enrolls over 20,000 students, including 3,000 international students from over 40 countries. EAP students attend the Rothberg International School of Hebrew University, located in Jerusalem at Mount Scopus. The Rothberg International School offers a wide range of courses that are taught in English. Most courses focus on some aspect of Israel, Jerusalem, or the Middle East. Of particular interest to UC students are courses in ancient history, anthropology, archaeology, Hebrew language/literature, history, Holocaust studies, international relations, legal studies, Medieval studies, Middle Eastern studies, philosophy, political science, and religious studies. Each semester students take at least four courses, including one course in Jewish or Israeli studies and one in Hebrew language. Academic ProgramDuration: Fall, spring, academic year Is extension possible? Extension is possible from the fall semester to the year Academic Focus: Regular university courses in a student's major or allied field taught in English through the Rothberg International School. Students with adequate Hebrew may enroll in regular Hebrew University courses. Students attend classes with: International students and host country students Unit Requirements: 18 UC quarter units per semester Language of Instruction: English and Hebrew Intensive Language Program (ILP) Required: Program begins with a nine-week Hebrew intensive language program (ILP) at the Hebrew University Host Country Language Study Required during Term or Year: Hebrew language study is required each term Program-Specific RequirementsClass level: Junior, Senior, Graduate GPA: 3.0 cumulative GPA at time of application and maintained through the end of the last term prior to departure. Consult the Campus EAP Office for policy exceptions and further information. Language Prerequisite: Prior study of Hebrew is recommended, but not required Final selection: Final selection is determined by the host university Applications due to Campus EAP Office: December 2002-January/February/March 2003.
HousingEAP students are required to live on campus in dormitories. Dorm reservations and payments are made directly between the student and the host university. Student housing during the ILP is pre-arranged by Hebrew University and is covered by student fees. Students live with: International, UC, and/or host country students.
