Israel: Summer Language Program

(Below is the 2002-2003 program summary. Programs in Israel have been on hold since 2002.)

Host Institution: The Hebrew University of Jerusalem

Highlights: This six-week program focuses on the study of Hebrew language. Six levels of Hebrew are offered, ranging from elementary to upper advanced. Students learn Hebrew in the classroom and during class excursions, where they explore Jerusalem and visit ancient sites. The summer language program is the only EAP option for UC sophomores to study in Israel.

Academic Program

Duration: Summer only (July-August)

Is extension possible? Extension is possible from the summer to the fall or year for students who meet EAP requirements

Academic Focus: Hebrew language and culture

Students attend classes with: International students.

Unit Requirements: 8.0 UC quarter units

Language of Instruction: Hebrew

Program-Specific Requirements

Class level: Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Graduate

GPA: 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application and maintained through the end of the last term prior to departure. No exceptions.

Language Prerequisite: None

Final selection: Final selection is determined by the host university

Applications due to Campus EAP Office: December 2002-January/February/March 2003.

Housing

Housing is pre-arranged by Hebrew University and is covered by student fees. Students live in university dormitories on Mt. Scopus.

Students live with: International students
