Highlights

The University of Bologna, the oldest university in Europe (founded in 1088), is one of Italy’s finest research institutions. It enrolls close to 100,000 students from all over the world, providing the opportunities that are to be found in a large multicultural setting. Bologna has strong departments in political science, Italian literature, history, art history, communication, foreign literature, and women’s and gender studies. (details)

Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna: Fine arts students may take courses at Bologna’s Academy of Fine Arts. With adequate preparation and consent of instructor, non-majors may enroll.

Duration

Academic year: late August to late July (calendar)

Academic Focus

Regular university courses. Most academic disciplines are available. Students attend classes with host country and international students. Special courses for EAP students are also offered through the UC Study Center. For course descriptions and additional information, see the EAP Course Information Page.

Language of Instruction

Italian

Language Study

Program begins with a four-week Italian intensive language program (ILP). Additional Italian language study may be required during the year.

Units

Students are required to take a full-time course of study on EAP.

Pre-ILP: 3 to 12 UC quarter units (details)
ILP: 3 to 6 UC quarter units (upper division)
Term: 18 UC quarter units per semester. The average course load is four courses per semester.

Housing

Students generally live in apartments with host country students, international students, or UC students. (details)
