Summary

Intensive Japanese Language and Culture Program, Tsuru University

UC students live in single university apartments (one bedroom with a kitchenette and private bath) within walking distance of the campus. Students live with UC students or host country students.

Global Studies Programs, Meiji Gakuin University, Yokohama

Students live in single-occupancy dormitories with UC students and international students. A few students may be placed in homestays with Japanese families.

International Christian University–UC Joint Program in Contemporary Japanese Culture

ICU fall students will live off campus in EAP-arranged, furnished apartments.

Language and Area Studies Program in English, Kyoto University (KUINEP)

Students live in an off-campus international house, university-arranged student residences, or off-campus private apartments. Students live with international students and/or host country students.

Programs with Course Work in English and Japanese

ICU: Many EAP students live on campus in ICU dormitories. Other students may live off campus in apartments, boarding houses, or private homestays. ICU fall students will live off campus in EAP-arranged, furnished apartments.
Sophia: Options include dormitories, international houses in the suburbs, homestays, and apartments.
Doshisha: Students live in an off-campus international house, university-arranged student residences, or off-campus private apartments. Spring students live off campus in university-arranged student residences.
Tsukuba: Students live on campus in dormitories.

All students live with international students, UC students, and/or host country students.

Programs Requring Advanced Japanese Language Skills

EAP living arrangements in Japan vary by host university. Some universities arrange student dormitory accommodations prior to students’ arrival, while others, lacking dedicated dormitory space, help students find off-campus apartments after arrival. Students also may arrange to rent their own apartments or secure homestay options if they choose. Students live with international students, UC students, and/or host country students.

Science and Engineering Programs in English

Tohoku University: EAP students stay at the International House
Tokyo Institute of Technology: Students live in dormitories for exchange students. Students live with international students.

Science and Engineering Programs in Japanese

Osaka University: Students live in off-campus dormitories organized by the university.
Tohoku University: EAP students stay at the International House, an off-campus dormitory for foreign students.
Tokyo Institute of Technology: EAP students may live in privately-arranged apartments or dormitories for exchange students.
University of Tokyo: Some students will stay at the International Lodge in Shirokanedai, located approximately 45 minutes from the main campus in Hongo. Other possibilities include the Wakeijuku Dormitory or privately-arranged apartments.

All students live with international students and/or host country students.
