Mexico: Tec de Monterrey (canceled after 2007-08)

The EAP program at Tec de Monterrey is open to UC students who are interested in focusing on the issues in their field from a Mexican perspective. Tec's offerings are especially plentiful for those who wish to develop cultural sensitivity to and familiarity with Mexican government and business operations, and those drawn to engineering and information technology.

EAP undergraduate and non-business graduate students may spend one semester or the full academic year in the dynamic and innovative learning environment of Tec de Monterrey.

Tec’s commitment to international education has resulted in a wide range of offerings to UC students at all levels of Spanish-speaking ability. (MBA students may pursue a separate quarter-length program described later in this guide.)

Though participants in the EAP Tec program remain in regular contact with the Study Center staff in Mexico City, you need be self-reliant and take responsibility for adherence to UC academic requirements for the program.

The first two weeks following orientation are very important for finding classes in which you are comfortable with the professor, the course material, and the language level. Past students report that the workload in Tec courses tends to be relatively heavy, so course selection is important and changing classes becomes much more difficult after the second week or so.

Unless you can write academic Spanish and speak it fluently, all students are required to take Spanish language instruction during the program.

As part of this program Tec de Monterrey arranges student internships that count for academic credit.

Students are required to take a full time course of study while on EAP. You must enroll in a minimum of 20 quarter units each term.
