Mexico: Selection Criteria

Application deadlines

Undergraduate applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

General

Requirements vary by program. Most programs have prerequisites and all programs have a minimum GPA requirement. Some programs require one to two years of university-level training in the host country language. For further details see your Campus EAP Office and the EAP website.

In addition to program-specific requirements, all applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

Serious academic goals and a clear plan for integrating EAP studies into the student’s UC degree program
Social and cross-cultural sensitivity; maturity; ability to adapt successfully to a different environment and a new education system; ability to assess and exhibit appropriate behavior in a variety of situations
Willingness to abide by program regulations
Endorsement by the Campus EAP Selection Committee and completion of all campus-specific requirements (an interview may be required)

Intensive Language and Society Program, Morelia

Class level: sophomore, junior, senior, graduate
Language prerequisite: One year (three quarters/two semesters)—no more, no less—of first-year university-level Spanish
GPA: 3.0 cumulative GPA and 3.0 language GPA at the time of application and maintained through the end of the last term prior to departure. Students below a 3.0 must confer with a Campus EAP Advisor before submitting an application.
Admission: The Campus EAP Office determines selection and final admission.

Mexico–US Comparative Perspectives Program, UC Center in Mexico City (suspended after 2007-08)

Class level: junior, senior, graduate
Language prerequisite: Minimum two years of university-level Spanish by the end of the last term prior to departure (or earlier if required by the Campus EAP Office)
GPA: 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application and maintained through the end of the last term prior to departure. No exceptions. 3.0 language GPA at the time of application and maintained through the last term prior to departure. Students below a 3.0 at time of application must confer with a Campus EAP Advisor before submitting an application.
Admission: The Campus EAP Office determines selection and final admission.

National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Mexico City

Class level: junior, senior, graduate
Language prerequisite: Minimum two years of university-level Spanish
GPA: 3.0 cumulative GPA at the time of application and maintained through the end of the last term prior to departure and a 3.0 language GPA by the end of the last term prior to departure (or earlier if required by the Campus EAP Office). Students below a 3.0 must confer with a Campus EAP Advisor before submitting an application.
Admission: The Campus EAP Office determines selection. The final admission decision is made by the host university.

Field Research Programs

Class level: junior, senior, graduate
Language prerequisite: Minimum two years of university-level Spanish by the end of the last term prior to departure (or earlier if required by the Campus EAP Office)
GPA: 2.5 cumulative GPA and 2.5 language GPA at the time of application and maintained through end of the last term prior to departure. No exceptions.
Other: Demonstrated background in the discipline to be researched. See your Campus EAP Advisor.
Admission: The Campus EAP Office determines selection and final admission.

Tec de Monterrey (canceled after 2007-08)

Class level: junior, senior, graduate
GPA: 3.0 cumulative GPA at the time of application and maintained through the end of the last term prior to departure. Students below a 3.0 must confer with a Campus EAP Advisor before submitting an application.
Admission: The Campus EAP Office determines selection and final admission.

Tec de Monterrey, Graduate Business Program (canceled after 2007-08)

Class level: Graduate
GPA: 3.0 cumulative GPA in graduate-level courses at the time of application and maintained through the end of the last term prior to departure
Admission: The Campus EAP Office determines selection and final admission for EAP.
