Mexico: Field Research Programs, Mexico City and Various Field Sites
Host InstitutionUC Center, Mexico City (Mexico City and various field sites) HighlightsThis experiential program is geared toward juniors and seniors who want to explore the “real” Mexico outside the classroom and at the same time receive research training. EAP has research sites in states such as Jalisco, Yucatán, Oaxaca, or Michoacán (final site choice depends on the research topic). Graduate students are also encouraged to participate in this rewarding program. (details) Duration Fall semester: early August to early December (calendar) Fall students may extend their EAP participation to the spring semester at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City, provided they have a 3.0 GPA at the time of departure from California. (details) Students attend classes in Mexico City with UC students only. Language of InstructionSpanish Language StudySpanish language study is required during the first six weeks of the program. UnitsStudents are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad. All students take four courses to reach 23.5 UC upper-division quarter units for the semester. HousingIn Mexico City, housing is pre-arranged by the program in apartments or private homes. Following the Mexico City portion of the program, students travel to their research sites and are responsible for arranging their own housing. Depending on the research site, housing choices may be limited. Students live with international students, UC students, or host country students.
