Philippines: Academic Year ProgramNote: The following is 2006-07 program information. The "details" links will show 2004-05 information. Some discrepancies may exist. Take careful note of which year you plan to study abroad. HighlightsHost Institutions: EAP offers academic year programs at two host universities in Manila. Both programs enable students to study in the Philippines in English and/or Filipino. The programs begin with a one-quarter (approximately eight week) module of intensive Filipino language study and an introduction to Philippine history, culture, and contemporary society. For fall semester (October through March), students choose to continue at Ateneo or at UPD. Students with beginning Filipino language skills should choose Ateneo. Ateneo's academic strengths are in the humanities and social sciences, especially philosophy, literature, history, anthropology, sociology, communication, and development studies. UPD offers a comprehensive curriculum with particular strengths in political science, economics, sociology, history, the fine arts, and Philippine studies. The semester at Ateneo or UPD is followed by an optional quarter of internship, field study, or volunteer work in an array of public and private organizations.
