South Africa: Beyond the Classroom

The information below is for 2007-08.

Field Study/Community Service

UC students in any field also may enroll in an upper-division political science class, Policy Issues and Community Service, which combines classroom learning with community service in various organizations and government departments including:

  • Association for Rural Advancement
  • AIDS Training
  • Centre for Criminal Justice
  • Natal Parks Board
  • Midlands Women's Group
  • Programme for Survivors of Violence
  • Society for the Prevention of Cruelty Against Animals
  • Tatham Art Gallery

The course is offered three times a year (first and second semesters and during the Winter Session). Students interested in taking the course must submit an application, which can be obtained from the instructor.

At the University of KwaZulu-Natal, EAP spring or year students may apply to participate in the International School's winter session (June-August) and take courses that have strong field study or internship components. Interested students should contact both UOEAP and their respective Academic Liaisons at either UNP or UND for more information.
