Spain: Language and Culture Program, UC Center, Madrid

Highlights

This intensive seven-week program allows beginning students of Spanish to accelerate their language training and encounter the cultural wealth of Spain. The program combines the modern classrooms, library, and technology of the Instituto Iinternacional with language instructors from the universities of the capital, and uses Madrid itself as the ultimate language lab. A weekend excursion to Galicia provides an additional perspective on Spanish culture. (details)

Summer: mid-June to mid-August (calendar)

Academic Focus

The focus of the program is Spanish language acquisition at the beginning level. Students who have prior university-level instruction in Spanish may be able to use this program’s course work to satisfy certain UC campus-specific foreign language degree requirements. Students attend classes with other UC students.

Language Study

The curriculum is language based.

Units

Students are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad. All students take two classes in order to meet the requirement of 12 UC quarter units.

Housing

Students have the option to live in shared apartments or in home-stays located throughout Madrid. All housing is pre-arranged by the program. Students live with Spanish hosts or other UC students.
