Spain: Intensive Language ProgramThe information below is for 2007-08. Immediately following Orientation, the four-week Intensive Language Program (ILP) begins. This program is also mandatory and is designed to prepare you for course work in the host universities. As the term “intensive” implies, classes run every day from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (or 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. depending on the Study Center). In all cases the programs emphasize grammar and composition, oral communication, and Spanish history, literature, and culture. Other aspects of the ILPs are tailored to the site, including information on the history and culture of the city and host university. In Barcelona the ILP includes an introduction to Catalan. The ILP at all locations carries a maximum of 6.0 UC quarter units. It is during the ILP period that you become familiar with the classes that will be offered at your host university in the coming term. You meet with program coordinators and the Study Center Director to select an appropriate course of study.
