Thailand: Student Comments

“My main reason for participating on EAP Thailand was to familiarize myself with the country in which I was born (but not raised), while being able to take economics and finance classes. I was able to combine both academic as well as personal interests.”

—EAP Student
Thammasat University, Bangkok

“The most valuable part of my experience in Thailand was to see and know how different other people are from people back at home. The difference in the social, academic, and political environment was far beyond anything that I could imagine.”

—EAP Student
Thammasat University, Bangkok

“My study abroad experience in Thailand has been great and far beyond my expectations. I have learned so much from the Thai and other international students whom I have met.”

—EAP Student
Thammasat University, Bangkok

“My semester in Bangkok was the highlight of my college education. The quality of the teaching at Thammasat, combined with the firsthand experience of living in Thailand, made my stay fascinating.”

—EAP Student
Thammasat University, Bangkok

“Thailand is full of fun and beautiful cultural traditions, and learning them and trying to live by them was always an amusing challenge. The Thammasat students and professors were so helpful and friendly, as were all of the Thais whom I met. The monks were so eager to practice their English skills that they would sit beside their temple with a sign begging tourists to come talk to them. They had so many questions about my culture and were willing to answer all of my questions about Thailand and life as a Buddhist monk. I learned so much in that afternoon (and semester) about what it means to be Thai!”

—Anna Mitchell, UC Santa Cruz
Thammasat University, 2004-05

“Without EAP I don't think that I ever would have discovered my passion for international economics and development. Living amidst the successes and failures of globalization inspired me in a way that a textbook and lecture never could. EAP gave me the chance to see what I was working toward with my own eyes, and to learn that my education really could help those who need it most.”

—Aaron Sokol, UC Santa Barbara
Thammasat University, Bangkok, 2003-04

“My experience as an exchange student at Thammasat University in Bangkok, Thailand, has been one of great interest, exposure, and enlightenment. As a UC student pursuing an economics degree, I could not have asked for a better place to broaden my perspective abut the global economy. Coming to Thailand to study economics was clearly the best academic decision I could have made to understand the intricacies of international trade and monetary policies.”

—Matthew Stevens, UC Santa Barbara
Thammasat University, Bangkok, 2004-05
