Student Comments"I want to teach and do research and the Field Research Program
gave me the opportunity to develop my own questions, to understand the
ramifications of those questions, and to try and answer them; something
I need to have experience with given my career goals. What I got out of
the program was an intellectual independence that isn't provided by a
classroom setting, and so I have to say this was one of the best social
experiences in my life and best academic experiences of my university
career so far." "I took a class on Political Economics in Latin America. It taught
me about views of the international economy from the perspective of a
developing country which really helped me garner a better understanding
of how things work. I plan to work with economic development in Latin
America and I am still in contact with professors from my abroad experience."
"Maastricht University offers international business courses, which
were not offered at my "My EAP experience helped me to look at economics from a global
perspective. I was able to apply what I learned at UC to examples in foreign
environments. The biggest regret a lot of students face after they graduate
is not studying abroad and, believe me, you do not want to be wondering
what you missed because it really is monumental." "I took courses like Economy of Modern China and Global Economic
Dimensions of Singapore. Both were unique perspectives on the economic
approaches that different countries have taken in order to produce economic
growth. My study abroad gave me a new understanding that economic policy
is not the same for all countries. There is a context to every policy
and the policy must cater to that context." "As a UC student pursuing an economics degree, I could not have
asked for a better place to broaden my perspective about the global economy
and to understand the intricacies of international trade and monetary
policies. Going to Thailand to study economics was clearly the best academic
decision I could have made." "EAP was a great experience for me. I was able to stay on track
academically, grow personally, and develop a lot of skills that are going
to be great assets for my future career. I think people in internship
and job interviews see study abroad as a way to differentiate you from
other students who also have fantastic academic backgrounds." "EAP is, without a doubt, the most valuable experience of my college
education. You get to apply everything you've learned in the textbooks
and see how the world's economy is affected. I got to understand the workings
of the European Union and how to euro affects the world's economy (my
major was economics). Just from exchanging currency, you can see how inefficient
it is to use multiple currencies and how transaction fees can quickly
add up to decrease your purchasing power." I took an international marketing class that gave me insight on marketing
products abroad. Our big case study was on how Ben & Jerry's ice cream
fared in the international arena!
