Why Study Abroad?
Top Reasons to Study on the UC Education Abroad Program
- You earn UC credit for the work you do on EAP. EAP is UC. You earn UC credit
for all EAP course work so you can keep making normal progress toward your degree.
- It's affordable. The cost
of EAP is often the same, and sometimes even less than staying in California.
All your financial
aid still applies. Additional study abroad scholarships are also available.
- The requirements are reasonable — including GPA requirements
that range from 2.5 to 3.5.
- You don't have to go away for a year. Many summer
and single-term programs are available.
- You don't have to be fluent in another language. Programs are available
to students at all language levels. Nearly all EAP countries have options
that do
not require previous language experience.
- Programs are available for all majors and all class levels. EAP
offers over 250 program options in some 35 countries, so there's something
for everyone.
- Many programs focus on the sciences. From biodiversity at the Great
Barrier Reef to computer science in Tokyo.
- Laboratory, internship, and field research opportunities
are offered at many sites, including Australia, Costa Rica, France, Japan,
South Africa, and more!
- International experience looks great on your résumé. Students
who have gone on EAP gain an edge for medical, law, and grad school
admissions. Employers
look favorably on students who have studied abroad.
- EAP focuses on safety. Safety
is a primary concern for EAP. EAP continually monitors local conditions, and
provides student support, counseling, and safety advisories. EAP networks
broadly with the U.S. Department of State, local embassies and consulates,
and affiliates at its host sites abroad.
- It's not too late to apply! Deadlines
vary and are scheduled throughout the year. Visit your Campus
EAP Office for exact dates.
