Duttenhaver and Dan Wise Scholarships

About the Scholarships

Duttenhaver Scholars Program

The Duttenhaver Scholars Program makes awards available for EAP students who will participate in a year-long EAP program. EAP and the donor, Linda Duttenhaver, value the benefits that come with a year-long program and want to encourage and assist students who are considering this option. There are two application cycles: one for Northern Hemisphere programs departing in fall 2010 and one for Southern Hemisphere programs departing in January and February 2011. Applicants must have a passion for studying abroad and a willingness to embrace and learn from the host country's customs, language, and culture. Over 30 awards of $5,000 are dispersed annually based on academic performance and financial need.

Dan Wise Memorial Scholarship

The Dan Wise Memorial Scholarship was established to promote year-long study abroad in France in memory of the donor’s close friend, Dan Wise. Students participating in any of EAP’s year programs in France starting in summer or fall 2010 are eligible for this award. Students from all of the UC campuses will be competing for ten scholarship awards. Up to 10 awards of $5,000 are dispersed annually based on academic performance and financial need.

Comments from Recipients

Lyon truly became my home. It was very important that I enrolled in the year program because I believe that I gained a much better understanding of the French culture and language then I would have if I only studied for a semester. I was really able to take time to get to know the city as my own.

My year in Japan was irreplaceable. Because of this wonderful opportunity I have a better outlook for the future. It has given me the courage to continue pursuing my undergraduate degree as well as graduate school. I’m grateful for this scholarship as it has been a big part of my decision to go abroad. I will treasure the precious memories and encourage others to have the experience of a lifetime.
