Study Abroad in China

Language & Culture, Beijing Normal University

Overview

The Beijing summer language and culture program is a seven-week program held at Beijing Normal University (BNU), located north of the old city walls, midway between Peking University and Tiananmen Square, with easy access by subway or taxi to the city center. Classes focus on conversation, listening, reading, and writing. Tutors provide individual or group tutoring. Cultural activities and excursions supplement class work.

Students attend classes with UC students only.

Chinese language; intensive written and conversational courses at varied levels of intermediate and advanced Chinese.

You are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad; 12 UC quarter units are required.

You will take only language classes.

Internships, Research, and Independent Study

Internships and independent study for academic credit are not possible in this program.

Summer: late June to mid-August

Space permitting, you are encouraged to apply to extend your participation to the fall or year Beijing Normal Univ. program or the year Peking Univ. program. (Sophomores may extend to the fall option only.) A separate application is needed for participation in the fall International Studies, Joint UC-Fudan Univ. (JPIS) program.

Housing

EAP students share double rooms with other UC students in a foreign student dormitory at BNU.

On-site Support

EAP students are supported by UC's network of EAP offices at every UC campus and partnerships with EAP host universities throughout the world. UC faculty and local staff abroad help students integrate into the culture of their host country and provide assistance with academics, housing, safety, and other issues.
