Study Abroad in Costa Rica
How can there be so much to see in such a tiny nation? This land bridge between North and South America has an incredible range of environments, from cloud forests to volcanoes, tropical beaches, and the urban center of San José that houses a full third of the population. Moreover, the emphasis that Costa Ricans have placed on sustainable tourism means you can move about the country with a clear conscience.
If you participate in the Monteverde program, you will have your travel built right into the program as you move between field stations and labs in diverse ecosystems. This intensive experience in the tropics offers unparalleled opportunities for research and discovery, not only of tropical biology and conservation, but of Costa Rican communities and of yourself.
If you choose San José, you will soon discover the character of the nation as you experience the city’s colorful markets, extensive museums, and vibrant nightlife. Costa Rica’s social, political, and environmental achievements are legislated there. After completing the spring term at the University of Costa Rica, you may stay for a summer internship, either in San José or among rural communities far from the capital.
