Study Abroad in Denmark

Language & Culture, University of Copenhagen

Overview

If you are a beginning student of Danish and want to gain an introduction to Danish culture, this two-month summer language and culture program is designed for you. Program participants attend classes at the University of Copenhagen, which offers language instruction, state-of-the-art language labs, and field trips to enhance practical skills and cultural immersion. Copenhagen is rated as one of the most livable cities in the world, with a full range of cultural activities, popular music venues, coffeehouses, clubs, and restaurants of every variety.

Students attend classes with other UC and international students.

Course Opportunities

Danish language and culture is the academic focus of this program.

Use the following resources to learn about courses on EAP:

  • EAP Program Search provides information on general areas of study.
  • MyEAP Course Catalog lists courses previously taken by UC students. Additional courses may be available and not all courses may still be offered. Since courses in new programs have not yet been taken for credit, they may not appear in the MyEAP Course Catalog.

Units

You will take a full-time course of study on EAP, which is 13.5 UC quarter units for the summer term.

Language of Instruction

Danish

Language Study

Language study is an integral part of the program. You will take two courses in Danish language.

Internships, Research, and Independent Study

If you choose to extend your study to the EAP fall or year option, you can explore internship opportunities. The city of Copenhagen hosts many different institutions, organizations, and private companies that offer internships to advanced undergraduate and graduate students. You must personally apply for any internship; it will not be organized through the University of Copenhagen. Institutions such as the UNICEF Supply Division and WHO Regional Office for Europe accept internship applications from students. The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCEPA) may also accept internship applications.

Duration

Go to the Participants section to see current or past calendars.

Summer: late June to late August

Extension of EAP participation is possible from the summer to fall or year options at the University of Copenhagen. A residence permit must be obtained prior to departure from the U.S. Sophomores are not permitted to extend.

Housing

You can live in a university-affiliated dormitory, rented room, or an apartment with other UC students, international students, or Danish students.

On-site Support

EAP students are supported by UC's network of EAP offices at every UC campus and partnerships with EAP host universities throughout the world. Local EAP staff in Copenhagen will help you and provide assistance with academics, housing, safety, and other issues.

You can also request a mentor. Mentors are volunteer students from the University of Copenhagen who assist EAP students upon arrival. They can even meet you at the airport and take you to your housing accommodations.

See the EAP Program Guide (PDF) for program-specific details about host institutions, program structure, and courses; academic culture and conduct; internships, research, & independent study; units, exams, and grades; orientation; housing; and information about the intensive language program (if applicable).
