Overview
Located in one of the oldest cities in the world, with 15 million people from various religious, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, the EAP program in Delhi offers you the ability to experience the vibrant blending of ancient and modern. Select and enroll in classes equivalent to UC upper-division courses from graduate departments including History, Anthropology, Psychology, Philosophy, Linguistics, and many others. Unique opportunities are available to study art history through the National Museum and to participate in projects through the Social Work and Management Studies departments. As you explore the city of Delhi, the second largest metropolis in India, you'll discover that you're surrounded by fascinating ancient monuments, wonderful museums, and a lively performing-arts scene.

Course Opportunities
Regular university courses in selected fields. Courses, which are taken through graduate departments, receive upper-division UC credit.

Units
You are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad. During the semester you enroll in three courses, including a Hindi language course.

Language Study
The program begins with a four-week Hindi intensive language program (ILP) in Mussoorie, a small town in the foothills of the Himalayas. Continued Hindi language instruction is required during the fall semester.
Internships, Research, and Independent Study
Independent study and internships for academic credit may be possible in this program. Arrangements are generally made at the Study Center after arrival at the host institution. Pre-departure preparation may be required.

Housing
Rent a privately owned apartment or flat with other UC students, international students, or host country students. Apartments are usually unfurnished and do not have appliances; however, appliance rental or purchase is usually inexpensive.
On-site Support
EAP students are supported by UC's network of EAP offices at every UC campus and partnerships with EAP host universities throughout the world. UC faculty and local staff abroad help students integrate into the culture of their host country and provide assistance with academics, housing, safety, and other issues.

Host Institutions
University of Delhi
Established in 1922, the University of Delhi (DU) is the foremost university in India, known for its high standards in teaching and research. Enrollment includes students from throughout India and from many parts of the world. The faculty includes a great number of scholars trained in the US and the United Kingdom. The university’s main campus is on almost 500 acres in Old Delhi, although the university’s colleges are independent and scattered across the city. The university enrolls a large student body in over 79 colleges and institutes. Courses of study are offered in the arts, basic sciences, social sciences, commerce, business administration, education, home science, law, engineering, nursing, computer science, medicine, and pharmacy. Instruction is in English.

Estimated Cost
Participation in EAP is a great value! The cost of EAP programs is typically less than that of non-UC study abroad programs. The dollar figures listed in the chart represent: 1) the amount of the fees that are paid directly to EAP in the current year, and 2) an estimate of the amount needed to cover personal living expenses in this location. Personal travel and entertainment are not included here.
Don't forget that you take your financial aid with you and the amount of your financial aid package will be based on the estimated TOTAL COST of this experience, as it is estimated below.

2.85 cumulative GPA at the time of application and maintained through the end of the last term prior to departure.
Other
Completion of a relevant course in Indian studies, international development, or Third World studies.
Minimum Criteria
All applicants must also have:
- Serious academic goals and a clear plan for integrating EAP studies into
the student’s UC degree program
- Social and cross-cultural sensitivity; maturity; ability to adapt successfully
to a different environment and a new education system; ability to assess and
exhibit appropriate behavior in a variety of situations
- A willingness to abide by program regulations
- An endorsement by the Campus EAP Selection Committee and completion of all
campus-specific requirements (an interview may be required)
