Study Abroad in Italy

University of Padova

Overview

Padova is one of the major cities in the northeast of Italy that has kept its old world charm despite commercial and industrial growth. The city boasts busy market squares, churches, palaces, and charming gardens. Padova is often called a "café without doors," and offers a rich and stimulating social life. Situated on a river that continues into the Venetian lagoon, Padova offers convenient access to Venice and other Italian destinations.

Through the EAP immersion program, you can take regular university courses with Italian and international students at the University of Padova, one of the top universities in Italy. Most academic disciplines are available.

UC students with only one year of university-level Italian can qualify for this program by enrolling in the summer Pre-Intensive Language Program (pre-ILP), Siena.

Course Opportunities

Courses are available in such disciplines as agriculture and forestry (including enology), art history, business administration, chemistry, communications, dramatic arts and music, education, history, journalism, linguistics, literature, mathematics, political science, psychology, selected pre-med courses (including biology), and physiology.

Use the following resources to learn about courses on EAP:

  • EAP Program Search provides information on general areas of study.
  • Host institution online catalogs or course listings:
  • MyEAP Course Catalog lists courses previously taken by UC students. Additional courses may be available and not all courses may still be offered. Since courses in new programs have not yet been taken for credit, they may not appear in the MyEAP Course Catalog.

Units

You will take a full-time course of study on EAP. The average course load is three to four courses per term.

Pre-ILP: 3 to 15 UC quarter units
ILP: 3 to 6 UC quarter units (upper division)
Term: Students take a minimum 18 UC quarter units per semester and 36 units per year

Language Study

The program begins with a four-week Italian intensive language program (ILP). Additional Italian language study may be required during the year.

Internships, Research, and Independent Study

You may be able to participate in an internship for academic credit or independent study project in this program.

Internship opportunities are constantly developing. EAP expects to offer further opportunities in the future. Students can enroll in independent studies or internships according to individual interests and preparation. All of the internships are non-paid and can be awarded UC credit. Volunteer activity is also encouraged. Past students have interned at the University of Padova radio station, Human Rights Center, museums, and schools. Refer to the following websites for more information about some of the host organizations:

Arrangements are generally made at the EAP Study Center after arrival.
