Study Abroad in Japan

Graduate Studies, International Relations,
University of Tokyo

Overview

This program is designed for master's students in the UCSD Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies. Participants take classes at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Public Policy (GraSPP).

Established as the first national university in Japan, the University of Tokyo is the most prestigious research university in Japan. The university offers courses in virtually all academic disciplines at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and engages in research across the full spectrum of academic activity. The university provides a rich and varied academic environment that ensures opportunities for intellectual development and the acquisition of professional knowledge and skills.

You will attend graduate classes taught in English with University of Tokyo master's-level students in the relatively new Graduate School of Public Policy, located on the Todai Hongo campus. The GraSPP program trains students to identify problems faced by modern society, teaches them the necessary skills to develop the policy for the solution of those problems, and gives them the proper tools to communicate and build consensus.

Course Opportunities

GraSPP provides interdisciplinary graduate training in law, politics, and economics. Such disciplines serve the base for policy planning, implementation, and evaluation. Lessons by practitioners, lectures, and discussion classes are based on domestic and international cases.

The fall semester offers eight courses taught in English and the spring semester offers seven courses taught in English. Some courses may be taught in Japanese.
