Host Institutions
Maastricht University School of Business and Economics
Maastricht University is the newest university in the Netherlands. It was founded in 1976 as the state University of Limburg, at a time when the Dutch government was seeking a new focus in the methods and outcomes of university training. The resulting Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method, unique to Maastricht, addresses the need for a scholarly approach to practical problems and issues, and the need for better pre-professional education through an innovative curriculum that emphasizes seminar-style group presentations and critical thinking. The university, which currently enrolls about 8,300 students and has almost 2,800 teaching staff, has emerged in recent years as a major center for international education and research.
