Overview
Reflective of Yonsei University's strong commitment to global education, the university's International Summer School offers courses of general interest in international studies, business and economics, science and engineering, and literature as well as courses on specifically Asian and Korean topics, taught by Korean, American, and other international instructors. Set within a spacious, quiet, and wooded environment in western Seoul on the former site of a Yi Dynasty royal palace, Yonsei is one of the most internationalized universities in Korea.
Students attend classes with international students.
Course Opportunities
Students may take Korean language classes at any level, and/or choose two to three courses taught in English on a wide variety of subjects, including Asian and Korean history, culture, literature, business, economics, society, and politics.
Use the following resources to learn about courses on EAP:
- EAP Program Search provides information on general areas of study.
- Host institution online catalogs or course listings:
- MyEAP Course Catalog lists courses previously taken by UC students. Additional courses may be available and not all courses may still be offered. Since courses in new programs have not yet been taken for credit, they may not appear in the MyEAP Course Catalog.
In the MyEAP Course Catalog, summer courses are listed separately from semester courses and are designated by an "S" suffix on the course number.
Units
You are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad; 9 to 13.5 UC quarter units are required, which is two or three courses. If you receive financial aid, you may be required to take 13.5 UC quarter units as a requirement for UC summer funding; see your campus Financial Aid Office for details.

Language Study
Korean language study is strongly recommended but is not required if you are enrolled in the summer program only.

Summer: mid-June to early August
Qualified summer students are encouraged to extend their EAP participation to the fall or year options at Yonsei University.
Housing
EAP students reside on campus in dormitories or off campus in apartments and share rooms with other exchange students. Students also have the option to make independent housing arrangements.
On-site Support
EAP students are supported by UC's network of EAP offices at every UC campus and partnerships with EAP host universities throughout the world. A local faculty member, who serves as the EAP Liaison Officer, administers EAP programs at Yonsei University along with a Study Center Coordinator. They help students integrate into the culture of their host country and provide assistance with academics, housing, safety, and other issues.
See the EAP Program Guide (PDF) for program-specific details about host institutions, program structure, and courses; academic culture and conduct; internships, research, & independent study; units, exams, and grades; orientation; housing; and information about the intensive language program (if applicable).
Host Institutions
Yonsei University, Seoul
Founded in 1885, Yonsei University is the oldest university in Korea. The main campus is located on 250 wooded acres in western Seoul on the former site of a Yi Dynasty royal palace. The main quad area resembles an American East Coast university with its numerous gothic stone buildings, although this traditional core is being infused with new architecture as the university expands.
Yonsei is one of the most selective of the Korean universities. It enrolls about 35,000 undergraduate and graduate students in a broad range of academic departments, a comprehensive graduate program, and professional schools at its Sinchon and Wonju campuses. Students who attend Yonsei represent the top 1 percent of Korean secondary school graduates.
The main university campus in Seoul, Sinchon, has colleges of Business and Economics, Education, Dentistry, Engineering, Human Ecology, Law, Liberal Arts, Medicine, Music, Nursing, Science, Social Sciences, and Theology. It has universitywide research institutes in the humanities, social sciences, sciences, engineering, and medicine and health sciences. Underwood International College (UIC) has its own degree program in English for Korean students, and also provides the curriculum for exchange students as well as for the Yonsei International Summer School.
