Study Abroad in United Kingdom
UC London Bloomsbury Center
Overview
EAP's exciting 16-week fall semester program in London is designed by UC faculty and taught by experienced and engaging British professors from universities in the London area. The rigorous four-course curriculum highlights London as a global crossroads of major social and cultural forces, and through a range of exciting activities outside of the classroom students actively engage some of the city's unique resources to examine these dynamics. Participants on this program will:
- Explore the interrelated themes of modernity and the city, landscapes of power and equality, and culture and identity in an urban space as they examine some of the major features of London's characteristics as a global city.
- Gain an understanding of the relationship between museum collections and key moments in the nation's history through visits to world-class museums located in London, such as the British Museum and the Tate Modern, as well as some lesser known museums such as the Museum of London Docklands and Geffrye Museum.
- Take advantage of life in one of the world's preeminent theater capitals by studying a series of plays being staged in London and attending and analyzing the performances of those plays.
- Get an insider's view of the British films through weekly viewings and discussions on cinema and society, cinematic representation, film form, narrative and genre, and authorship; and gain an appreciation for the relationship between cinema and questions of national identity by examining cinematic representations of the individual "nations" within the U.K.
This program has proven very popular with juniors and seniors. It is also one of two EAP programs in the U.K. that is open to sophomores.
Students attend classes with other UC students.
