Study Abroad in the Dominican Republic

Surrounded by mountains in the lush Cibao Valley, Santiago is the second largest city in the DR yet it retains a small-town feel. This commercial and cultural hub, about an hour from the coast, has an active sector of restaurants, nightlife and shopping.

A community service practicum in an underserved area offers important insight into the state of healthcare in the Spanish Caribbean. For the majority of the program, you will live with a Dominican family in a charming neighborhood within walking distance of Pontifical Catholic University of Madre y Maestra, where you take classes. Included are guided visits to nearby monuments, historical sites such as the rock paintings left by the indigenous Taíno peoples,  and a weekend excursion to the capital of Santo Domingo.
